Project Manager: Liz Magill and David Wilkes

BoV Approved: August 2018

Project Dates: 10/01/2018 – 9/30/2024

Funding Awarded: $55,000,000

Executive Summary

UVA and Inova desire to become the founding partners of the Research Institute to pursue research activities that will benefit the Commonwealth, which research is expected to focus on genomics, functional biology, bioinformatics, biologically driven engineering, personalized medicine, and related translational research.  The UVA School of Medicine will seek to recruit world-class researchers and scientists who could spend some or all of their time at the Research Institute and could attract NIH or other extra-mural research funding.

In addition, the UVA School of Medicine would like to create a regional campus for third- and fourth-year medical students, with an initial cohort of about 30 medical students who would begin their clerkship on the Inova Fairfax Campus in 2021.  This is a way to hopefully influence some of these students to remain within the Commonwealth for the long term.
